Welcome to Waste Not Collective! We’re Tom and Katie and it’s so lovely to welcome you into our zero waste community. We live in Brisbane, Australia with our gorgeous son, crazy dog and queen-bee cat. At Waste Not Collective, we are all about sustainable, reusable, vegan, fair trade, ethical, organic, package free, palm oil free, plastic free and Australian & NZ owned.
We started our journey to zero waste/tox free/slow living journey whilst preparing for pregnancy several years ago. We were inspired by my cousin and her husband who had already started making huge changes in their home as they worked towards a more sustainable lifestyle. Becoming pregnant with Elijah, quickly hastened my desire to rid our home of plastics and toxins in our food and body products. The more research we did, the more passionate we became about pursuing a low waste, plant based, mindful lifestyle.
As Christians, we passionately believe that God asks us to love him, love people and love his creation. Caring for our neighbours means fighting for climate justice. The poorest and most vulnerable people in our world, are the most likely to be severely effected by climate change, pollution and natural disasters. Furthermore, our culture's obsession with buying more and grabbing a bargain, fuels unethical and unsafe working conditions and child labour. By purchasing ethically made, reusable, quality products and producing less waste and carbon emissions, we can put our faith into action.
Faith in Action
14-17 Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it? For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved and say, “Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!” and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup—where does that get you? Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense?
18 I can already hear one of you agreeing by saying, “Sounds good. You take care of the faith department, I’ll handle the works department.”
Not so fast. You can no more show me your works apart from your faith than I can show you my faith apart from my works. Faith and works, works and faith, fit together hand in glove.
